Alison Macklin is a national leader in the comprehensive sex education field for over 16 years. Owner and Chief Strategist at Making Sense of It Consulting, she provides guidance with regard to the implementation of comprehensive sex education legislation and policy and helps parents develop skills to feel comfortable having conversations about sex and sexuality with the young people in their lives.
Alison is the Author of Making Sense of It: A Guide to Sex for Teens (and Their Parents Too!), a skilled sex education trainer, and is currently the Director of Policy and Advocacy with SIECUS: Sex Education for Social Change, working with several states to pass comprehensive sex education legislation modeled after the 2019 Colorado legislation she helped author and pass.
Miranda Estes joins SIECUS as the State Policy Action Manager. She will lead the implementation of the SEPAC program to ensure member organization gain valuable advocacy, coalition building, and political strategy skills. Miranda looks forward to supporting and building relationships with member organizations through webinars, trainings, programming, and leading advocacy opportunities for SIECUS to support state/local/federal advocacy initiatives.
Miranda is a Mississippi native who prides herself on being people oriented and community centric. She is a licensed master social worker (LMSW) earning both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. Miranda began her career working in local, statewide, and federal Democratic campaigns. She then pivoted to union building during grad school followed by being a community organizer for a well-known reproductive health organization.
Outside of work you can most often find Miranda at a thrift store or farmers market, taking walks around Hattiesburg with her dog (Pat), or partaking in a local happy hour.
